New Door

I love my Cube hen house, but the door into the run just wouldn't do. It was tiny, and only my nine-year-old son could get into the run if there was some sort of minor emergency (like the time Ruby couldn't find her way into the house to go to bed). Today we upgraded to a larger door:

The girls don't yet realise they're no longer safe from cuddles and cameras.

Nudge gives me the what-are-you-doing-here look.

Ruby and Alice aren't sure what to make of my being in the run with them.

Everyone eventually settled down and went back to ignoring me, except for Toast who is hiding behind the ladder. She doesn't trust me one bit.

*LOL* Nudge looks really funny.

Nudge is a bit of a character. Last year she was badly injured and had to spend a lot of time indoors with us while she healed. I think she may be a little spoiled!

Mad, it doesn't seem to be down. I was just doing some updates to the site, so maybe that affected it?

I just love looking at chicken photos! I never tire of them.

Only one of our girls is tame enough to want to jump on us anytime we're near her. The rest are ok with us picking them up, but would prefer we just left the food and backed off...kinda like Toast. LOL!

We have cut the flock back to six. Eight was just too many. Toast and Featherbelle have gone to live with a friend a couple of villages over. We now have a completely friendly flock. I'm surprised how had it was to say goodbye to the unfriendly two, but the run is much happier and quieter now.

I know how that is. We'd love to have more and more chickens, but our chicken tractor will only comfortably fit a certain number, and cramped chickens are not happy chickens.
