One more day...

One more day until the big reveal. Nearly there!

But for now, how about a giveaway? :) I have a £25 gracefruit.com gift certificate available to a random commenter.

I've been suffering a bit of winter blues this year (it's been a hard winter here) and could use some uplifting advice. How do you shake off the blahs of cold winter months?

Please leave a comment telling me how you cope with the long, cold darkness. All comments will be entered into a drawing for the gift certificate. I'll pick a name 'out of the hat' on Friday February 5th at noon.

Good luck!

Hot tea, chocolate, knitting, and as soon as there is a tiny little bit of sun out there you'll see me soaking it up!

I also try to do stuff for myself. Manicure, pedicure? Retail therapy on sales? Yeah!

Hi Beth,

what does help against the winter blues ??
Some chocolate, our oven in the living room, closed curtains (because of not to seing the snow.., no it isn't there...), a warm cussion, a telephone and good friends on the line and thinking about my plans ...
And, of course, some beautifull spring flower pots on the table .

Have a nice and exciting week (when will we get the news ???)....

Hmmm ok... first you have to choose chocolate, chocolate and then some chocolate. Then a good wine or maybe a gin and cranberry (my drink of choice). Then possibly checking out some plans for holidays - we've planned a trip to Turkey this Summer and just knowing that we're off there really helps... looking at pics of the villa makes my heart sing. Then probably some chocolate too. Hugs help - I love hugs, hugs are life's petrol, they keep you going. Then... soaping and experimenting and messing around with wonderful fragrant things in the kitchen. And finally, chocolate ... on the couch.. with a good book or a black and white movie or a fab magazine... oh pure bliss!!!! And chocolate.

Hope that helps!! Can't wait to see the surprise!!!!

Dear Beth,

My panacea is chocolate! ;)

Bright colours help, surround yourself with yellow, orange, red, green, blue, pink... all that stuff you associate with spring and summer! Especially on clothes or at least a nice detail that stands out and lifts your spirits.

Use a colouful coffee/tea mug (sounds weird, might be weird but works for me :) ). Google for "waechtersbach tasse 4700", the yellow one with those wonderful retro flowers is mine and I love it.

Smile! Laugh! For some reason, it helps...

To ban the winter blues, pop down to B&Q and get some soil. Dig out some yoghurt pots and fill them with soil and then start early spring seedlings in them. While doing the weekend shop buy the most colourful flowers you can find and make up some bunches to dot around the house. And finally a nice long walk to the shop to buy some...chocolate ;-)) (being outside lifts the mood, even if the sun doesn't shine) - oh and ignore all friends on FB who claim that we will get more snow next week.

I just returned from Mexico and this has definately helped a lot with whatever blues I had! Now there's only February to go through and it'll be all over. I'll start my plants for spring and that's it! ;-)

Hello! A cup of herbal tea with a good music is the answer to winter blue, for me. But also chocolate is good!

Hi from Aust in summer

My great great grandmother left Glasgow in 1855 and headed for a warmer climate, now in summer but what have we got for the last week and a half electrical storms, loss of power and phone hit during storms. No phone line = no internet to catch up on soaps etc.

I live in Russia, and our winters are really very long. What do I do? I make soap, plan soap, buy everything for soap :) And I also do embroidery, order beautiful fabrics online and try to add more color to life.

I think colours may help, bright spring-colours like yellow, orange, pink and green like first leaves. And there fits fragances of fresh fruit and tender blossoms. And music of your favorit, to sing loud and happy.

...and perhaps a little bit chocolate... ;-)

Playing addicting games on the computer (Puzzle Bobble, Peggle, Sherlock) while listening to music. Soaping. Watching something brain-dead for distraction (Vampire Diaries, Top Model, Gossip Girl). Watch cute videos on youtube or see cute pics on cuteoverload.com.

An early morning chat with a friend on the phone about anything and everything. Chocolate - everyone who mentioned it is right! A snuggle with your pets, and family, and finally set yourself a fun photo project, choose a topic and start snapping (as you are looking through the lens at your subject you forget about the blues)!

Aroma-therapy definitely:)

My favourite "pick me up and make me happy" blend is:
3 drops of Grapefruit
2 drops of Ginger
1 drop of Ylang Ylang

Great in the bath, in your car, on a tissue etc

If all else fails then some Green and Black Organic Chocolate works every time!

Bright, bright lightbulbs in the morning. A drop of grapefruit oil in the shower. A brisk walk in the fresh morning air. A hot cup of sweet, cinnamon-infused tea. A heady pot of hyacinths on a windowsill. Crisp summery salads at lunchtime. Giggling conversations at work, on the phone, online. A bowl of spicy stew and hunk of homemade bread in the evening. Felting. Cosy candlelight and the biggest blanket I can find. A weekly dose of Glee on the telly and the songs in my heart for the rest of the week.

And if you still can't beat those blues. Laugh at them. Good and hard, until you suddenly find, you mean it.

Congrats on your new website look! Looks nice'n fresh and fabulous.

Winter blues has been my problem here in the dark north for many years. I've been trying bright light lamp, it helps a bit in the morning, but doesn not totally remove the overall blues. Anyway, this year I have had less blues than normally on winter time. I believe vitamines D and C have helped - I've been taking them since autumn. Especially D which we tend to have lack of in Finland.

Oh, and also a good long proper Xmas break helped me really...

Seems I have come back from France just in time, woohoo! I find the long winter evenings and snowy days quite cosy. When in France, I snuggle down in my favourite chair by the roaring fire and crochet, in England I just snuggle down on the settee and cuddle my doggies. And crochet, lol. I think there is something beautiful and enjoyable about every season, I honestly couldn't say that I prefer one over another.
