Having given up on growing vegetables, we've decided to concentrate on fruit for our newly revamped garden. Currently, we have several apple trees, a plum tree, and a pear tree, so to fill out the mix, I've just placed an order for a damson tree, a cherry tree, a pot of strawberry plants, and eighteen raspberry canes. They'll arrive toward the end of February -- just in time to be planted for the coming growing season.I don't know if the new fruit trees will bear much their first year, but we should be in raspberries from May until December! Yay!
From our experience, depending on the type of tree and its age at planting of course, most will not bear fruit until 2-5 years after planting. Some will surprise you and bear fruit in the first year though, so you never know!

Teresa, I've heard that trees take a bit of time to settle before they'll fruit. At least the berries won't make us wait!

ReplyDeletedo you want some Brambles ? I have plenty....other than bindweed, it's pretty much all we have out there. Apparently there are some roses under the brambles...somewhere
ReplyDeleteMP, we discovered a thicket of them between our fence and the neighbours' while cleaning up the garden. Removing them looks like a fun job. I think I need those gloves that one wears while swimming with sharks!
