Wee Changes

Just doing a little work on the blog today. I've decided to change the focus slightly, as I've found my interests have slightly changed. I still adore making soap, and will continue to post about it. I've also found some new hobbies -- raising chickens, baking bread, preserving, cooking from absolute scratch, gardening, and trying to live a better (ie, greener and more fulfilling) life.

I hope you'll continue reading as I start this new chapter. I'll start with a photo of one of my girls. This is Toast -- my leghorn cross -- taking a nap in her dust bath:

Those are good intentions of mine (except for the chickens--we're not zoned for them where I live, but I've been wanting some for years) as well, so I'll be happy to keep reading.

That sounds like my journey: homesteading and trying to maintain a state of contentedness! I would be thrilled and honored to follow your blog in your new focus.

    Toast...what a great name for a brown chicken! :)

My nephew raises chickens here in the U.S. He brought one down when he came to visit (it was just a chick and the mother didn't want it).

    Love your blog!

  4. Change is good! Sometimes it's good to shift focus or mix it up. It keeps things fresh. I look forward to your chicken tales!

  5. Hi Dalene -- that's a shame about the zoning. :( Will they not even let you have a bantam or two?

Teresa, I have been reading your blog with amazement. You do everything! I wish we had a bit more land for growing things, but we're making do with what we have for now. Toast is my son's chicken. Leave it to a nine-year-old boy to come up with 'Toast'!

Hi Milly, thank you for coming by and for reading. What happened to the little chick?

Crafty Chick, I agree! I thought the blog was getting a bit stale. I guess life would, too, if we never had new interests! Thank you for coming by. :)

  6. Oh I miss my chickens. I had them in New York country, now I am also not zoned for it. No farm animals whatsoever and my neighbors would complain, I'm sure.

I will read anything you write. You are an interesting woman and I like you!!

All this interest will have you blogging more often??

  7. Aw, thank you Johanna. I'm so sorry about your chickens. Do bantams count as livestock? I know a lot of people raise them as pets/show birds.

I would like to update more than I do. Hopefully I'll have a bit more to say now. :)
